"Revolving rifles" emerged in the early 19th century when Samuel Colt refined the concept of a repeating rifle based on an indexed rotating cylinder. This was followed by the more popular Colt Model 1855 revolving carbine, which saw duty on the Pony Express and limited action in the American Civil War. Matched to the frame is a 16.125-inch barrel that is micro-threaded to ensure an ideal barrel/cylinder gap for accuracy and to maximize cartridge performance. Unique to the Rough Rider Rancher is a finger hook beneath the trigger guard. This provides comfortable firing hand positioning for optimal trigger and muzzle control. Topping the barrel is a fixed front sight and an adjustable buckhorn-style rear sight that takes advantage of the rifle's long sight radius while presenting a classic sight picture.
