Smith &Wesson .40s

Posted by Sean on Jan 16th 2019

Well let me start by saying I’m a big fan of Smith & Wesson revolvers.

I purchased one of these about 5 years ago, it worked very well… For about 500 rounds. Then it started malfunctioning with all types of ammo, stovepipes, ftf, free, and it wasn’t occasionally, it was two or three per magazine. Twice the slide stuck to the rear when firing so hard I had to smack it on the bench. This is not the first time I’ve had issue with an S&W .40 though, 13 years ago when I first got my concealed firearm permit I purchased a chefs special .40 (which they no longer make now), and it had very similar issues, in fact the aluminum frame slide rail broke and severely jammed the gun, I sent it back to S&W and they replaced it, then after a month… It happened again, then it happened again. Finally S&W replaced it with my choice of handgun, I picked a model 10 for a gift for my dad. I now carry a 637.

So I’m not sure if it’s the manufacturer or the caliber, I’ve had Glock .40s for short times but I never keep them because for whatever reason the cases pop straight up and land on top of my head, which isn’t pleasant when it happens all the time. So I personally won’t ever own another .40, or a Smith & Wesson auto. But their revolvers are awesome
