OTHER FEATURES: Though remarkably similar in size to the popular SR9, the SR40’s custom slide design reducesrecoil and slide velocity, making it more comfortable to shoot than many of its competitors. Ruger Introduces the SR40 October 12, 2010 Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), is proud to announce the Ruger® SR40 pistol, the latest extension of the SR-Series, striker-fired line of pistols. The SR40 now provides a large caliber option in one of the slimmest and most ergonomic full-sized pistols on the market today.”The SR40 represents the next logical step in striker-fired pistols from Ruger,” remarked Bob Gates, Ruger’s Director of Law Enforcement, Military and International Sales. “The outstanding ergonomics and value of the SR9® are now available to officers and civilians in the effective and proven .40 caliber chambering. An added bonus is the surprisingly light recoil, which makes the SR40 easy and comfortable to shoot.”The SR40 is built on the same high-performance glass-filled nylon frame as the SR9, offering all the great ergonomic features that made the SR9 a success: a slim, narrow frame with a short trigger reach, reversible backstrap for an arched or flat configuration, and fully ambidextrous controls. The through-hardened, stainless steel slide on the SR40 is .060″ wider than that of the SR9; the added mass of the slide reduces slide velocity during cycling, reducing recoil and improving service life. The SR40 weighs 27.25 ounces (with an empty magazine) and ships with two fifteen-round, flush-fit magazines. A loading tool is also provided, although an anti-friction coating applied to the magazine body greatly reduces the force required to load the magazines to full capacity. The SR40 features a 4.1” barrel length, fully adjustable three-dot sights, and an integral accessory rail. The SR40 offers modern safety features such as a visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator, striker blocker, trigger safety, magazine disconnect, and a frame-mounted ambidextrous manual safety.Category : PistolsType : PistolAction : Single/DoubleCaliber : 40 Smith & Wesson (S&W)Barrel Length : 4.1″Capacity : 15+1Safety : AmbidextrousGrips : Black PolymerSights : 3-Dot AdjustableWeight : 27.3 ozFrame Finish : Black

An Extention

I bought the SR40 and what a wonderful weapon . When you point it it is the extension of your arm and just feels right . It’s a great carry .
I’ve run perhaps 400 rds and it just plain shoots anything you put into it .
Just gave it to my young friend who helps me out on the ranch and he’s having a good time with it. Only thing that would make it better is if they made it in a 10MM . RUGER SHOULD BE PROUD !

My fourth and not final Ruger
Posted by Ryan W on May 8th 2014
This is my 4th Ruger pistol and I have nothing bad to say about any one of them. Started with revolver security 6, thenl lc9 , sr40, and finally sr1911. Its like picking a favorite child you just can’t do it but for work I carry the sr40 a perfect gun in my opinion after a new steel 22pound guide rod and spring, a trigger job and some traction grip and aluminum striker. I only recommend USA Ruger

Great and dependable gun
Posted by BWL on Mar 22nd 2014
I have owned this gun for over one year. I have yet to have a failure to feed or fire. I have shot the following ammunition: Winchester full metal jacket 180 grain, Blazer full metal jacket 180 grain aluminum case, American Eagle full metal jacket 165 grain, Hornady critical duty 175 grain, Winchester PDX 1 180 grain, Corbon jacketed hollow point 135 grain.
I’ve shot in all weather conditions, cold to hot, and have never had any problems. I use it for concealed carry and home defense. If you are looking for a great, reliable pistol this is the one.

Keep it up ruger

I love this gun as it was the first firearm I’ve ever owned. The gun shoots flawlessly. Got my girlfriend to shoot it who was terrified after watching me shoot it, but after showing her how to hold she shot a whole magazine and had a blast. Have shot lots of my buddies guns and my follow up shots down range are more accurate with this then some of my buddies’ 9MM. THE ONLY complaint I have with this gun is the guide rod. I wish it stayed in place more than it does cause it has SLIGHT play after racking the slide I can push the guide rod back in cause it sticks out a bit. I wish it stayed flush with the nose of the gun. That’s the only reason I gave it a 4. No big deal, it’s an amazing gun!!

Ruger sr40 stainless slide
Posted by E. Bowen on Apr 14th 2013
The only reason I did not give this handgun a 5 was because the trigger is not quite as good as a Glock. I read many reviews on this gun before making a purchase. These reviews were, for the most part, on sites other than Florida Guns. Most of the reviews wailed and moaned about the poor trigger on the SR40. Grsnted, it’s not as crisp as a Glock, but it is not the piece of crap that many reviewers wrote it is. It does have a bit of travel, but the trigger is easy, slick and clean.
I recently had a chance to test a Springfield Armory handgun of similar in design to the Ruger SR40. The Sprinfield is a nice, good quality weapon which costs quite a bit more than the Ruger, but I prefer the trigger on The Ruger hands down.
The Ruger has no feed problems, it is comfortable and easy to handle. The take-down and reassembly[for cleaning] is very simple. I do not see the added slide weight as a negative.
When I was looking for a gun for personal defence I did not want to trust my life to a weapon that I thought might blow up in my face. Ruger has a long reputation of making quality weapons for a price that a working person can afford. The SR40 is no exception to this rule. I am confident the SR40 will do it’s job if needed. I would have no reservations about buying another one. Well done Ruger!
P.S. Florida Guns had the best prices I could find anywhere!
