U.S. Survival AR-7. Don’t Leave Civilization Without One

Since 1959, the venerable AR-7 survival rifle has been the choice of U.S. Air Force pilots who need a small-caliber rifle they can count on for survival should they have to punch out over a remote area. Over the years, the AR-7’s reputation for portability, ease of operation and reliability has carried over to the civilian world as well. Today, it’s a favorite of bush pilots, backpackers and backcountry adventurers who, like their Air Force counterparts, need a rifle that’s easy to carry but has the accuracy to reliably take down small game.

Like the original Henry US Survival Rifle, our latest take on this innovative, semi-automatic rifle is lightweight (just 2.5 lbs) and highly portable. At just 16 ½” long (when all the components are stowed), it fits easily into the cargo area of a plane or boat or in a backpack. And because it’s chambered in .22LR you can carry a large quantity of ammunition, without adding much weight to your gear.

The Henry Survival Rifle’s waterproof stock enables it to float if dropped into water. It can be easily retrieved and will still function.

When disassembled, the pieces fit inside the impact-resistant, waterproof stock, which will float should it take a trip overboard. Assembly is as easy as attaching the receiver to the stock, inserting the barrel and screwing on the barrel nut. In just a few seconds, without the need for any tools, the Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 is ready for action.

The Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 comes standard with a sturdy steel barrel covered in tough ABS plastic and then coated with Teflon for complete protection against corrosion. Plus, it’s engineered for perfect balance and the ability to maintain its tack-driving accuracy, even after thousands of rounds.

Like the barrel, the receiver is also coated with a layer of waterproof Teflon for superior weatherproofing, waterproof protection, even in harsh salt water environments. Plus, the updated receiver is grooved making it easy to top it off with your favorite optics.

The Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 is available in Black finish only. All models are equipped with an adjustable rear sight and a blade front sight.

LOL….who writes these reviews anyway

Posted by Oly on Feb 27th 2017

I’ve been thinking to buy one of these for my grandson and I ALWAYS do my research before going out to buy anything…including reading reviews. You have to read the review that was written Feb. 11, 2015 by Phred (Ph sounds like a F……Fred….get it?) from West….nothing but complaints but still gives it 5 stars? So, he’s either on some good drugs and won’t share, he’s a joker or he’s not too bright by not figuring out the rating system…..

I’ll put money on it that this will get my grandson started with plinking…..

Better Than The Original

Posted by Rimfire Rifleman on Oct 2nd 2016

Well, I waited for many years, but I finally purchased one of these awesome little rifles. I was an A-10 Crew Chief in the Air Force and this was, and still is included as standard issue survival gear for all A-10 pilots, and for good reason. They work. This ingenious firearm was custom built to meet and exceed the mil-spec for aircrew survival weapons. Henry has made numerous changes and refinements to the original design that have resulted in an improved rifle. This modern variation now has better sights and includes a built in rail for mounting optics if desired. Personally, I will leave mine stock. I will include this in my own survival pack along with a waterproof can of 325 rounds of Federal, 36 gr HP ammunition among other essential items. Oh, and by the way it shoots very nicely! I sighted it in at 50 yards with Federal Champion ammo and was getting groups between 1" – 2" off hand shooting which plenty good enough to be point-of-kill. I also purchased a 3rd spare clip which can be loaded into the magazine while stored! This allows for me to have 24 rounds available for quick, quiet deployment and in any weather. Sweet!

Please do yourself a favor and buy one of these rifles. We live in perilous times. The world is a dangerous place. You just may have to defend your life and the lives of others someday. This is a compact and lightweight rifle that is easily concealable and portable and is designed to operate reliably under harsh conditions in order to survive and live to fight another day…

I just got one of these rifles and I DO NOT HAVE ONE COMPLAINT. I love this little gun I have shot about 150 rounds through it nit one problem yet the accuracy is great I hit every thing I was aiming at from 10 yards to 50 yards I have no problem with my front sight either and the buttcap has not fallen off yet either I have nothing bad to say the trigger is heavy but after a few shots I forgot all about it so no problem for me I also didn’t have to move the sughts at all dead on right out of the box I think people who have a problem with this gun just like to complain period good job henry keep it up great little fun reliable rifle

Horrible trigger, shoots too low to adjust.

Posted by Phred on Feb 10th 2015

My Henry Survival shoots way too low. Can’t adjust the peep to compensate. The trigger is the worst, just awful, but it does appear to have a defective sear. How did this get out of the factory? I gave up on the Henry and bought a two piece Ruger 10/22. Love it ’cause it works.

Better than I expected

Posted by Hugo on Dec 24th 2014

Just came from the range.Put a few hundred rounds through it. Accuracy was not quite as good as my 10/22 but better than I expected. No jams with Federal bulk ammo and Remington Thunderbolt high velocity. Well worth the money.

Not a toy good weapon

Posted by Be ready on Apr 23rd 2014

Exactly what I was expecting and what I paid for.

It does what it supposes to do.

Fits nicely in the back pack light it does float.

Straight shooting if misses is because of me not the gun.

No jams yet that is good buy one won’t regret it.

Thanks Impact guns to make it available.

Don’t believe the negativity

Posted by Wrecks_Ryan on Mar 12th 2013

I rarely post reviews on products unless i had the occasional bad experience and to warn people…but this is NOT why i want to add my 2 cents about the Henry AR-7. There is so much conflicting reviews (lot of negative) but keep in mind this is a NEWLY revamped model of an old design that previously had flaws. This little .22 is a fun, functional, accurate, and reliable survival rifle by every stretch of the imagination (especially for the price!)…get one and you will love it. And as always Do not expect to get a BMW for the price of a KIA and you will never be let down.

Also to the person who posted about wishing it could fit a 50box in the stock, check into the Catch .22 ammo holders….they are REALLY great, very well made, water proof, inexpensive, portable and hold 50 rds each. I have 5 and want another 5!

AR7 new and old

Posted by Ed P. on Dec 19th 2012

The first time I purchased one of these little guns was in 1984 up in Alaska, it was a fun little plinking rifle that could be carried anywhere. I sold it when I moved to the lower 48 and regretted that decision for years.

I’ve been able to get my hands on another one that was of a more recent manufacture and am happy to say it’s still a fun gun to shoot. Very accurate and easy to clean.

Highly recommend

Posted by M on Oct 26th 2012

Just got back from the range after my first Henry AR7 experience. It was a gift from my brother who also bought one for himself. We read up on reviews of ammo to use and came down on CCI mini mag 22 lr 40 grain 1235 fps, high velocity. Went through almost 500 rounds and NO JAMS. Not a single problem. Both of us had no issues at all. The accuracy was pretty damn good too. Tight groups at all different distances available at the range.

Great buy!

CCI mini mag 22 lr 40 grain 1235 fps high velocity work flawless.
